CSL DD

An Xbox or PC racer who wants a proven entry DD base and intends to grow within Fanatec's ecosystem.

~$350 approx 2026 street price

The Fanatec CSL DD is the long-standing benchmark entry direct-drive base, delivering 5Nm on the stock power supply and 8Nm with the optional Boost Kit 180. It is one of very few entry DD bases that runs on Xbox as well as PC, and it plugs straight into Fanatec's huge accessory ecosystem. Reviewers still rate it as one of the best first DD bases years after launch, with the post-Corsair stabilization (3-year warranty, 30-day returns) restoring buyer confidence.

Pros

  • Rare entry DD base with native Xbox support
  • Gateway to Fanatec's deep accessory catalog
  • 8Nm Boost Kit upgrade extends its useful life

Cons

  • Full 8Nm requires buying the Boost Kit 180 separately
  • QR2 base-side disables FFB on non-Fanatec rims without a Podium Hub
  • Historically the most lock-in-prone ecosystem

Common questions

Do I need the Boost Kit 180?
Not to start. The CSL DD runs 5Nm on the included supply, which is plenty for learning; add the Boost Kit 180 later to reach 8Nm.
Can I use a third-party wheel on the CSL DD?
Force feedback is disabled on non-Fanatec rims through the QR2 base-side unless you add a Podium Hub adapter, so plan to stay on Fanatec rims.
Does it work on Xbox?
Yes. The CSL DD is one of the few entry direct-drive bases licensed for Xbox as well as PC.
