I test the gear so you don't gamble on it.

— Robert Pruitt

IgnitionSim exists because the simulation-hardware market is a maze. A wheelbase, a wheel, a set of pedals and a cockpit can total two or three thousand dollars — and half of them don't fit together. Quick-release standards clash. Ecosystems lock you in. Launch monitors need a room you might not have. Restocks vanish in minutes. Most "reviews" are a thin layer of marketing over an affiliate link.

I'm Robert Pruitt. Two decades in technical recruiting across engineering, robotics and machine learning — a systems-thinking obsessive who tests the gear so you don't gamble on it. I've spent two decades around engineering, robotics and machine-learning talent — which means I read a spec sheet the way other people read a menu, and I'm constitutionally incapable of recommending something just because it's popular.

How we test and what we won't do

  • We test against reality, not press releases. Compatibility logic here reflects the actual quick-release, mount and torque standards manufacturers ship — encoded into the Rig Configurator so you can check a build before you buy it.
  • We'll tell you to skip something. An honest "this is overkill for you" or "buy the cheaper one" is worth more than any affiliate commission. If a product isn't right, we say so.
  • We never fabricate specs, prices or stock. Numbers come from the manufacturers and retailers and are dated; where something is approximate, we mark it. We'd rather leave a field blank than invent it.
  • We read the community for signal, not content. Reddit and the forums tell us what buyers are actually struggling with. We use that to decide what to write — then we write it ourselves, from scratch. We never scrape and republish.

How this is funded

IgnitionSim is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you — it never changes our verdict or your price. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. The link you click never changes our verdict, and it never changes your price. If a recommendation ever reads like it was bought, call it out — that's a failure of the whole project.

Five bays, one engine

IgnitionSim covers five simulation disciplines — racing, flight, space, marine and golf. The hard part — the compatibility engine, the honest rating framework, the schema that makes our answers citable — is shared across all of them. Racing is the flagship and the proving ground; the rest follow the same playbook.
